Free health camp for EMRS students at Dalbari
A free medical check-up camp was organized by the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) Unit, Baksa, AIIMS Guwahati and Anamaya, the Tribal Health Collaborative (under Piramal Foundation) with assistance from USAID for the students of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Dalbari in Baksa district of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) on Saturday.
This initiative aimed to provide comprehensive healthcare services and promote the well-being of tribal students in the EMRS. The primary focus was raising awareness of tuberculosis (TB) among the students of EMRS while also conducting check-ups on ENT, paediatrician, and gynaecological among others for the overall growth and development of the tribal students.
Angelus Baxla, principal, EMRS Dalbari appreciated the efforts of Anamaya and USAID for ‘recognizing the efforts of quality health and wellness for adolescent boys and girls of our school’.
Baxla said, “Today was a special occasion where Anamaya with the support of USAID organized a TB awareness session, and supported AIIMS Guwahati in organizing a free health checkup camp for our students covering several health-related issues such as malnutrition, eye check-ups, ENT, and yoga sessions.”
Children are a particularly vulnerable population when it comes to TB. Early detection and treatment are crucial in preventing the spread of the disease and ensuring better health outcomes.
Through this collaborative effort, the aim is not only to eliminate TB but also to address other health challenges faced by tribal students, ensuring they have access to quality healthcare services.
Dr Purabi Phukan, Professor and HoD, Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Guwahati, too, acknowledged the holistic measures adopted by Anamaya to ensure the overall health and well-being of tribal students in the region.
