Freedom Fighters of Meghalaya during British Rule” book released in Delhi
Daniel Stone Lyngdoh, an Advocate of the Supreme Court of India launched his latest book, “Freedom Fighters of Meghalaya during British Rule,” on Saturday at conference hall, Meghalaya House, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi.
Terming it as a “Compelling exploration of unsung Freedom Fighters of Meghalaya which based on Facts and after Lots of Arguments which is a combination of Primary as well as secondary sources,” Lyngdoh sought to present a work that is both insightful and accessible to a wide audience.
The event featured a keynote address by Chief Guest IPS Robin Hibu (DGP & President Helping Hands NGO); Special Guest IAS Armstrong Pame, Director Ministry of Education, Government of India, Special Guest by Assistant Professor Dr. Teiborlang T Kharsyntiew, School of International relations, JNU, New Delhi. The launch was followed by a panel discussion with esteemed personalities from the different fields and literary fraternity.
The book is published by Ri Khasi Book Agency, Shillong. The event was graced by distinguished guests from various fields, including academia, administration, and civil society.
Lyngdoh, who also authored the book on female freedom fighter, Phan Nonglait, shared his journey of compiling the book, which took nearly three years of dedicated effort. He recounted the challenges he faced in gathering firsthand information from the immediate relatives of Meghalaya’s freedom fighters. The book is a result of personal interactions, factual research, and insightful arguments, making it a compelling read for history enthusiasts.
The book has been forwarded by Padma Shree Awardee Prof. David R Syiemlieh, former Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University and former Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). His endorsement adds further credibility to this remarkable work.
“Freedom Fighters of Meghalaya During British Rule” is now available for readers and researchers, offering a deep dive into the untold stories of courage and sacrifice from Meghalaya’s past.
The book launch ceremony was inaugurated by IPS Robin Hibu, Director General of Police (DGP) and President of Helping Hand NGO, as the Chief Guest. In his address, IPS Hibu emphasized the importance of the book for those interested in political history, India’s freedom struggle, and the contributions of the Northeast region. He highly recommended the book to students and researchers, calling it a valuable resource for understanding the sacrifices of Meghalaya’s freedom fighters.
IAS Amstrong Pame, Director, Ministry of Education, shared his personal experiences of studying in Shillong and highlighted the significance of the book for younger generations. He urged readers to acknowledge the contributions of Meghalaya’s freedom fighters and learnt from their struggles.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Teiborlang T Kharshytiew, Assistant Professor at the School of International Relations, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, praised the book for its meticulous research and historical relevance. He announced that the book would be included in the teaching curriculum at JNU and would serve as a reference for further research.
Other notable attendees included Kaushal Goyal, Editor of Pigeon Book India, and Dr. Vanora E Nongrum, Medical Commissioner, North Zone, ESI Chandigarh Regional Office, along with many other dignitaries from across India.
