Frequent transfer of officers link to corruption: Mukul
SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has welcomed the decision to institute a CBI probe into alleged corruptions in the state as he said the frequent transfer of officers is also link to this issue.
Sangma, also former chief minister, told reporters on Monday that the issue does not confine only to illegal mining or transportation of coal but other alleged corruption practices as well.
He said the opposition Congress has been constantly drawing the attention and cautioning the government in and outside the House, asking for action on such illegalities that have been going on.
“But the irony is that there has been prompt denial on these issues. I have seen lots of write ups carried by media and concerns shared through social media, it is known to everybody it has been blatant. Therefore the level of blatantness with which this whole corrupt practice is going on with the whole patronage of the leadership is condemnable,” Sangma said.
Expressing concern, the Congress leader said the corrupt practices is not confine only Jaintia Hills region, it is going across the state and it is not confine to coal alone, it goes beyond coal mining adding that he has raised question on this whole conspiracy a number of times.
He further said that the conspiracy has resulted into victimization of officers who fails to comply. “The officers who did not response to their dictates to engage in this whole conspiracy, they are victims. You go after March 6, 2018, how many officers have been transferred and posted and for whose interest? Whenever a government employee of any level is posted or transferred it is in the interest of the public, there is no other purpose. Therefore all these transfers and postings it has got link to this whole manipulation and criminal conspiracy,” Sangma added.
Welcoming the recent order passed by the Lokayukta, the former chief minister said when corruptions, which is alleged to be due to patronage of the people in power, an independent body has to be engaged for investigation. “This is exactly what the Lokayukta is doing and we look forward to see for the truth to prevail,” he said.
