From Passion to Profit: Local Entrepreneurs Inspire Students at Kiang Nangbah College Programme
Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai successfully hosted an Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme on August 14, where local entrepreneurs shared their inspiring journeys of turning passions into successful businesses. The event aimed to motivate and equip students with the knowledge and insights needed to explore entrepreneurial ventures.
The programme began with a warm welcome speech by Dr. Blessing Roy Suchiang, in charge of the Entrepreneurship Cell at the college, who emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and innovation. He also introduced online tools for students to validate their business ideas and assess whether they are feasible for launching as startups.
The Principal of the College, Dr. (Mrs.) EM Blah, officially addressed the event, highlighting the crucial role of educational institutions in nurturing future entrepreneurs and fostering creativity and resilience among students.
The event featured insightful sessions by esteemed resource persons. Alim Pariat, owner of Bsa Rta Processed Meat, shared his entrepreneurial journey and provided valuable insights into the meat processing industry. He stressed the significance of quality and innovation in building a reputable brand, while also reflecting on how he, like many other graduates, initially felt uncertain about his future. His love for culinary goods eventually guided him toward turning his passion into a business.
Khrawborbha Kharpuri, owner of The Chicken Wagon, Shillong, also shared his story, recounting how his humble beginnings and skills in home chores motivated him to pursue a career in Hotel Management. After gaining experience in prestigious hotels in Delhi, he returned to Shillong and built a thriving food business. He offered practical advice on overcoming challenges, seizing local market opportunities, and taking calculated risks.
Both entrepreneurs acknowledged the support they received from PRIME, Govt. of Meghalaya, during the early stages of their entrepreneurial journeys.
The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session where students engaged with the resource persons, seeking guidance and clarifying doubts about entrepreneurship. The event was a resounding success, leaving participants inspired and better prepared to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys. The programme wrapped up with a vote of thanks delivered by Susan Jones Nongkynrih, marking the end of an impactful session.
