Futsal playgrounds open in Khliehriat
Boosting the spirits of athletes in Khliehriat town and the broader East Jaintia Hills District, Futsal Playgrounds funded by the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Fund were inaugurated on Monday by Cabinet Minister and Khliehriat MLA, Kyrmen Shylla. The newly opened facilities, located in Khliehriat West and Khliehriat East villages, mark a significant step in enhancing sports infrastructure.
The inaugural event at Khliehriat West Playground saw the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, Rymbai Khliehriat MDC Finelyness Bareh, traditional leaders, members of Khliehriat West Sports Club, and local residents.
Delivering his address as Chief Guest of the programme, Cabinet Minister, Kyrmen Shylla congratulated relevant stakeholders of the project including the Deputy Commissioner, local leaders and the contractor for fruition of the project even as he expressed optimism that the facility made available to the public would help hone the talents of aspiring footballers of the district.
Shylla also announced an allocation of Rs. 5 lakhs from the MLA Scheme for fencing the Khliehriat West Football Ground.
In the initial phase of the project, a total of 5 Futsal grounds are under construction, with Khliehriat West and Khliehriat East already completed. Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal encouraged the community to fully utilize the newly inaugurated Futsal Playground, hoping it would contribute to the development of high-quality sportspersons, particularly footballers, in East Jaintia Hills District.
Simultaneously, at Khliehriat East, Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla, accompanied by Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla and Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, inaugurated a Futsal Ground and a Parking Lot. Minister Shylla underscored the significance of the DMF Fund, expressing hope that the Futsal Grounds in Khliehriat West and Khliehriat East would benefit aspiring footballers in the district.
Shylla urged residents of Khliehriat East to make optimal use of the Futsal facilities, ensuring that talented youths have easy access to the playground to enhance their footballing skills. MLA Santa Mary Shylla hailed the day as a milestone for Khliehriat East, as two public utility assets were inaugurated. She called on the community to collectively take responsibility for maintaining these assets.
Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal in his address expressed hope that the Futsal Ground inaugurated at Khliehriat East would help accelerate the promotion of football in East Jaintia Hills District.
