Ganesh Das hospital gets notice for refusing to treat pregnant woman
The state government has directed the health department to issue show-cause notice to the Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health hospital for allegedly refusing to admit a pregnant woman, who also subsequently lost her newborn baby on Tuesday.
“We have directed the health department to issue a show-cause to the Ganesh Das hospital and action will be taken accordingly,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Wednesday.
He said the decision to show-cause the hospital is also to understand the sequence of events that had taken place.
The pregnant woman on Tuesday was denied admission by the hospital as she had come from Mawlai Mawtawar, which has been declared as a ‘containment area’ due to detection of COVID-19 cases.
Later, she was however admitted by the hospital on the intervention of the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr War and delivered her baby, which unfortunately passed away on Tuesday evening.
Stating that the government has taken serious note on the incident, Tynsong reiterated as he said, “No hospital can refuse to admit patients even if they are coming from containment zones. We felt bad that the baby passed away but the government has taken serious note on the lapses.”
The deputy chief minister has also directed all hospitals including at the public health centres (PHC) level to inform the health authorities if there is need to increase the isolation beds in their respective centres.
