Ganja worth Rs.3.5 crores seized in Meghalaya
The Meghalaya Police seized 80 packets of ganja weighing 1168.182 kgs and the market value of ganja is Rs 3.5 crores from one container truck in West Jaintia Hills District.
According to police, the Ummulong Beat House Police during routine vehicle checking at Mookyndur check-point in the wee hours of Tuesday signalled to slow down and stop one container truck B/R No. RJ.10 GB 1424 approaching from Jowai side to slow down and stop.
However, the vehicle stopped at a distance before the checkpoint and two persons alighted from the vehicle and fled from the spot and left the said vehicle behind.
Police said that it aroused the suspicion of the duty personnel and immediately a hot pursuit was made to a certain extent but taking advantage of the darkness, the duo managed to disappear from the area.

Accordingly, the vehicle was checked at around 1:30 am and on entering the driver’s cabin, very strong odour of Ganja/Marijuana was emitting from the cargo area of the said vehicle.
The ANTF was informed and by following the laid down procedures, thorough search of the vehicle was made in presence of independent witnesses.

Police recovered Ganja/Marijuana packed in 80 Nos. of packets in rectangular shape covered by tightly wrapped brown tape with a total weight of 1168.182 kgs which accordingly the market value worth Rs 3.5 crores.
Jowai PS C/No. 92(07)22 U/S 21(c)/ 60(3) NDPS Act is registered and investigation is on.
The Director General of Police, Meghalaya assured to reward all Police personnel who stall a huge consignment of Ganja/Marijuana.
