Garo film Chanchisoa selected for screening at 55th International Film Festival of India
The Garo film Chanchisoa, directed by Elvachisa Ch Sangma and Dipankar Das, has been selected for screening at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which will take place from November 20th to 28th, 2024, in Panaji, Goa. This film is one of 20 non-feature films chosen for this prestigious event.
The Indian Panorama, a flagship section of IFFI, announced the selection of 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films to be showcased this year. The feature films were selected from a pool of 384 contemporary Indian films, with the opening film being Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (Hindi), directed by Randeep Hooda.
In the non-feature category, the selection was made from 262 films, showcasing the ability of both emerging and established filmmakers to reflect contemporary Indian values. The opening film in this category is Ghar Jaisa Kuch (Ladakhi), directed by Harsh Sangani.
The Feature Film Jury, led by acclaimed director, actor, and screenwriter Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, comprises twelve esteemed members from the Indian film fraternity. Among the jury members are notable figures like Manoj Joshi, Susmita Mukherjee, Himansu Sekhar Khatua, Oinam Gautam Singh, and Ashuu Trikha, along with other prominent directors, writers, and cinematographers.
The selected feature films for the Indian Panorama 2024 include titles such as Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Kerebete (Kannada), Venkya (Kannada), Juiphool (Assamese), Mahavatar Narsimha (Hindi), Jigarthanda Double X (Tamil), and many others from various languages and genres.
In the non-feature category, the jury is headed by renowned documentary filmmaker Subbiah Nallamuthu and consists of six members dedicated to promoting non-feature films. Among the selected non-feature films are 6-A Akash Ganga (Hindi), Amar Aaj Marega (Hindi), Amma’s Pride (Tamil), and Chanchisoa (Garo).
Established in 1978, the Indian Panorama aims to promote Indian films and showcase the country’s rich culture through cinematic art. Selected films are screened not only at IFFI but also in international film festivals and special events globally. The festival is organized by the National Film Development Corporation in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the State Government of Goa.
