Garo Hills not faceless without Mukul, 7 other MLAs: Lyngdoh
Newly elected Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday said Garo Hills is not faceless just because all its MLAs from the region had recently defected and joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).
“Do not say Garo Hills is faceless now. Do not give importance to one face. Congress is teamwork. Congress is not a one man show,” said Lyngdoh when asked how the party will revive itself in Garo Hills region ahead of the 2023 Assembly polls.
At least eight MLAs from Garo Hills including former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma along with 4 MLAs from Khasi and Jaintia Hills region have merged with the AITC.
Lyngdoh however claimed that the Congress will still get five seats from the region.
“But believe me, we will get not less than 5 seats in Garo Hills as we speak today, things will improve down the line,” she said while asserting “Maybe it will work to our advantage, the results of 2023 will tell you that.”
The CLP leader further maintained that 12-14 months is a long time in politics.
“One year is not short, 12-14 months is very long in politics. You have seen what happened in a term of five years, the ups and downs of this batch of the tenth Legislative Assembly have seen storms after storms with the passing away of some of our members, with the exodus of some of our members from one party to another, 12 months is a long time,” she added.
