Garo Hills push for winter capital in Tura: ASPF intensifies public campaign

The A’chik State People’s Front (ASPF) has intensified its campaign for the establishment of a Winter Capital in Tura, holding a major public meeting at Garobadha Merong Bajar in South West Garo Hills on Saturday.
The awareness campaign, organized by ASPF Headquarters, Tura, in collaboration with the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), saw participation from several influential local organizations, including Nokma, FKJGP, APA, and NGCO. The event aimed to rally public support and urge the government to fulfil its long-standing commitment to the people of Garo Hills.
The meeting was chaired by Salgra Sangma, Secretary of ASPF’s Garobadha Unit. Anderson M Marak, President of FKJGP (Garobadha Circle), reminded attendees that the government must honour the promises made by the state’s founders.
Willat Ch Marak, President of A’chik Progressive Approach (APA) Garobadha Unit, vowed to stand firm in this movement, while Balkarin Marak, Acting Chairman of GSMC, encouraged continued public participation, emphasizing that the fight will persist until the demand is met.
Legal advocate Bernita Marak called upon elected representatives, including MLAs and MDCs, to prioritize this issue in the Assembly, stating: “The people of Garo Hills have placed their trust in you—now you must voice their concerns.”
The event concluded with a benediction prayer led by Agasi Sangma, Nokma of Sona Mite, reinforcing the community’s united stand on the demand for a Winter Capital in Tura.
