GCCM urges CM to resolve ongoing strike by commercial vehicles
Traditional chiefs on Thursday demanded the Conrad K Sangma-led state government to immediately resolve the ongoing indefinite strike called under the banner of the Meghalaya Joint Action Committee of Commercial Vehicles (MJACCV).
In a memorandum to the chief minister, chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya (GCCM) John F Kharshiing said, “We urge your urgent intervention to resolve the ongoing crisis so that general public life and normalcy can be restored.”
He said that they have been receiving calls from the general public from rural areas from different districts complaining on lack of commercial vehicles and the hike in cost of traveling due to the ongoing strike.
“We are sure the state government will examine and explore all options and come forward with solutions to address the demands of the MJACCV at the earliest so as to ease the present difficulties faced by the general public especially the poor and those in need of medical treatments in the rural areas,” Kharshiing wrote.
