Gender violence awareness campaign held in Khliehriat
With the aim of generating awareness on gender-based violence, the Meghalaya State Rural Development Society (MSRLS), East Jaintia Hills District, organized a District-Level Campaign against Gender-Based Violence on November 29 at Khliehriat West Community Hall, Khliehriat.
The event was attended by Assistant Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, S. Malviya; Project Director, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), East Jaintia Hills District, G. Warjri; Block Development Officer, Wapung C&RD Block, Dr. T. Shylla; Block Development Officer, Saipung C&RD Block, Dr. R. Pyrtuh; other officials; Cluster Level Federation (CLF) leaders; Voluntary Organization (VO) representatives; and SHG members.
Speaking at the programme, Assistant Commissioner S. Malviya highlighted the impact of gender-based violence on families, children, and communities, emphasizing the idea that “A Happy Mother makes a Happy Home.”
Project Director of DRDA, G. Warjri, commended the active participation of SHG members and urged them to take proactive steps within their communities. He also emphasized the importance of involving men in CLF-level gender campaigns to promote inclusivity.
Earlier, experts from the District Legal Services Authority (DSLA), the One Stop Centre (OSC), and the Police Department provided insights into helpline services available to women, issues and challenges faced, reported cases of gender-based violence, laws related to violence against women, and case-handling mechanisms.
