Geological Survey of India all set to organise mega Swachhata Hi Seva programme
As a part of the nationwide celebration of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, Geological Survey of India (GSI) has planned mega cleanliness drives/events on October 1 involving the public and community at multiple locations in the country.
In a statement issued here by the Public Relations Officer for Additional Director General and Head of Department, GSI North Eastern Region, Dr. Bashab N Mahanta informed that a plethora of activities in north-eastern regional headquarters of GSI in Shillong has been started with a quiz competition on cleanliness on September 27 among its employees inaugurated by G.K. Kesari, Additional Director General & HOD, NER.
Shramdan programme in Shillong is organised on October 29 at the GSI Complex, Rynjah and a plantation drive will be conducted on October 30 which will be followed by a medical check-up camp for all employees especially the Safai Karmacharis (contractual employees engaged in cleaning services).
Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is being celebrated from September 15 to October 2, this year for undertaking shramdaan activities aiming to generate jan andolan (mass movement) through community participation; to provide impetus on implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission; to disseminate the importance of a sampoorna swachh village; to reinforce the concept of ‘Sanitation as everyone’s business’; and as a prelude for the Swachh Bharat Diwas (October 2) with nationwide participation.
Among the 30 identified sites in the country, Khetri, Kamrup Metro Guwahati, Assam, Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh and Majlishpur GP in West Tripura District, Tripura are the three locations identified for the mega cleanliness campaigns in north east.
At each of the identified sites, Swachhata Shramdan will be offered by a minimum of 100-200 participants involving Shramdan Sevaks from GSI, and the local community.
