GHADC employees refuses to resume work as Govt fails to clear pending salaries
Employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) under the banner of the Non Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA) has refused to resume work after failing to get any assurance from the government.
The decision was taken after a delegation of the NGEA met the newly elected Chief Executive Member Benedict Marak on Thursday requesting his intervention into the early releasing of the employees’ pending salary.
The GHADC has failed to pay salary to its employees for the past 33 months.
“(We) have decided to continue to abstain from our work until and unless a written assurance is given by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the new GHADC CEM,” NGEA joint secretary Flaming Marak said in a statement issued on Friday.
He said the new CEM has refused to consider the demand made by the delegation for removal of current GHADC secretary Rikse Marak.
“He (Benedict) has also not assured us of the payment of our 33 months pending salary,” Marak said.
“We had high expectations from the new EC but are discouraged and disappointed after having a talk with the new CEM,” he said while stating that there is very less hope that the new EC will be able address the grievances of the employees.
Meanwhile, the NGEA also responded to the appeal made by the CEM to resume work by stating “How long will we work without food?”
