GHADC MDC urged Lamare to reduce taxi fare from ISBT to Shillong
Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) MDC Rinaldo K Sangma apprised the Meghalaya Govt on the financial burden faced by students community for paying hefty taxi fares from ISBT, Mawiong to Shillong city.
In a letter to Transport Minister Daskhaitbha Lamare, the MDC from Rongrong Constituency said the Taxi fare imbroglio in Shillong has been burning a hole in the pocket of the passengers especially the young migrant students from Garo Hills daily.
He also said, “As you are in the know about the exorbitant rates of Taxis from the ISBT Mawiong to other parts of Shillong, the unavailability of an alternative mode of transportation is literally costing everyone an arm and a leg. “
The Cabs coming from far off places with the sky rocketed fuel prices are compelled to charge no less than 300-900 rupees even to the nearest station for drop off, the letter said.
The price charged by the taxis are more than the price of bus tickets from Tura – Shillong, Sangma rued.
The MDC said that he has received numerous complaints where some poor students and passengers with large baggages, who have ceased to come to a negotiation for nominal fares have been necessitated to walk the roads to an aggregate of 7 kms to Military Rhino point for the next Taxi station early morning.
The letter urged Lamare who is old classmate to address the problems faced by the people especially the students by reducing taxi fares.
