GHADC to go to polls tomorrow
The stage is set for over 7.43 lakh voters to exercise their franchise for the 29 seats of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) which will go to polls on Monday.
Polling will start from 7am to 4pm. There are 953 polling stations spread across the five districts of Garo Hills region.
Of the total 7,43,717 electorate, 3,74,441 are males and 3,69,276 are females.
As many as 182 candidates are contesting from the 29 constituencies of which 8 are female candidates and 174 are male candidates.
“All necessary steps have been taken to ensure elections are conducted smoothly and peacefully,” District Council Affairs (DCA) Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said
Campaigning for the GHADC polls ended on Saturday.
Tura constituency, which has seven candidates, is with the highest number of voters at 59,816 of which 29,524 are males and 30,292 are females while Rongrikimgre is with the lowest at 13,983 of which 8879 are males and 8448 are females.
A total of 75 candidates are contesting as independents for the GHADC polls while 15 are non-tribal candidates who will be contesting from the National People’s Party, Congress and BJP.
Counting will be held on April 15.
