Gokhale alleges MDA of being controlled by Amit Shah and Himanta Biswa Sarma
Yet again, the opposition All India Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Saket Gokhale on Thursday questioned the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong about the rampant misgovernance in Meghalaya.
Gokhale said his repeated questions regarding the irregularities in the financial irregularity of Shillong Smart City Ltd as well as connivance of disqualified contractors in the construction of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building collapse have either received silence or obscure excuses from both the Chief Minister as well as the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
In the letter by Gokhale, on behalf of Meghalaya TMC, the chronological and systematic ‘efforts’ of the MDA government’s denial to justify their accountability has been clearly highlighted.
Gokhale’s response comes after Tynsong attempted to distract the attention from the issues of misgovernance by questioning whether Meghalaya TMC was planning to make Gokahle an MP candidate.
In reply to Tynsong’s question regarding Meghalaya TMC not appointing a spokesperson from Meghalaya, Gokhale reminds him that the MDA government is a proxy-BJP government which is controlled by Amit Shah, and the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“In connivance with these “outsiders”, the MDA government has stolen from the public exchequer of Meghalaya and has made the life of the people of Meghalaya miserable”, adds Gokhale.
Gokhale highlighted that in the last two months, Meghalaya TMC has been consistently raising several questions pertaining to misgovernance by the MDA government.
While Tynsong questioned as to why Gokhale does not opt for RTI to get specific information from the concerned departments, Gokhale clarified that a lot of information regarding the malpractices of the MDA government has been revealed through RTIs.
“A lot of this information regarding the misgovernance of the MDA has been unearthed through RTIs and by talking to the people of Meghalaya who are fed up with the constant corruption in every department of the MDA government”, said Gokhale.
Reminding Tynsong about the challenge of debate and him coming to Shillong in the first week of October, Gokhale said that the frivolous excuses made by both Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and the Dy. CM would not stop him from questioning the MDA government. Are they fearing that their cats will be out of the bag? While the MDA ministers are tagging Gokhale’s questioning as a mere debate.
Meghalaya TMC has accentuated the fact that under the able guidance of leaders like Dr. Mukul Sangma, Charles Pyngrope, and TMC MLA George B. Lyngdoh TMC Meghalaya has exposed the rampant corruption prevailing in the MDA government.
Commenting on Gokhale’s role in questioning the ministers, the letter explained the role of an elected member of our nation.
It states, “Saket Gokhale is merely doing his duty as an Indian and asking questions of those in power which is the right of every citizen. By hiding behind diversions and excuses, the MDA government has made it clear that they are scared of their misdeeds being exposed and that their corruption will be laid bare in front of the people of Meghalaya”.
Maintaining the essence of a true democracy, the party has underlined that the challenge for the open debate made to Tynsong and the Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma still persists.
“Let them not be scared and let them be accountable to the people”, says the letter.
