Golflink assault incident: Govt assures action against perpetrators
The state government has assured action against perpetrators involved in the assault incident at Golflink which led to the death of a 20-year-old boy from Wahkaji village in South West Khasi Hills district.
“Law is already in place and anybody who breaks it they will be punished – that is a clear message,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Thursday.
Requesting all concerned stakeholders to be patient with the government, Tynsong informed that the police are on the job to arrest the culprits involved in the incident.
“It is not easy to say do it (arrest) tomorrow, if not will do this, will do that. Therefore, I again appeal don’t make an issue, government is all out for finding out these people involved in the unfortunate incident. I just appeal from the government side to be cool and calm and ultimately will be able to arrest the culprits at the earliest possible,” he said.
Pherlangroi Myrthong (20) succumbed to his injuries at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Sunday, a week after he along with his friends were assaulted at Golflink area on March 21.
No arrest has been made by the police so far.
A seven-member special investigation team (SIT) was recently constituted by the state police to further investigate into the case. The SIT is being headed by SP (City) Vivek Syiem.
