Governor Acharya hails Bodoland University’s role in education, urges graduates to empower society.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya lauded Bodoland University’s transformative journey in higher education, research, and cultural preservation as he addressed the 3rd Convocation of the university in Kokrajhar on Sunday.
Established in 2009, the university has become a significant academic hub, playing a key role in shaping intellectual growth and innovation in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
Recognizing Bodoland University’s contributions over the past 15 years, Governor Acharya emphasized its impact on academic development and its vital role in preserving Bodo heritage. He congratulated the 16,494 students who received degrees, including 79 PhDs, 7 MPhil degrees, and 55 gold medals, and urged them to embrace their new responsibilities in society.
“Your degrees are not just personal achievements; they symbolize your potential to create lasting change in the world around you. Education is a lifelong journey—adapt, grow, and give back to society,” Acharya told the graduating students.
Highlighting the transformative power of education, the Governor underscored the need for students to equip themselves with practical wisdom, emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness. Citing the Bhagavad Gita and Rigveda, he stated that knowledge is the foundation of progress and civilization. He also paid tribute to Bodo icons Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma and Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, acknowledging their contributions to literature and culture.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, Acharya reminded students that education is the medium through which individuals realize their full potential. He urged them to commit to lifelong learning and use their knowledge for social empowerment.
Governor Acharya also spoke about the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, calling it a landmark reform that harmonizes ancient Indian knowledge with modern education. He expressed confidence that the NEP would position India as a global knowledge powerhouse, balancing traditional wisdom with contemporary advancements.
Emphasizing skill development, research, and innovation, Acharya encouraged students—especially young women—to pursue careers in science, technology, and engineering, contributing to India’s national progress.
Concluding his address, the Governor urged the degree holders to take their education beyond classrooms and become catalysts of change. “Your journey does not end here—let your education empower society, uplift communities, and shape a brighter future for Assam and the nation,” he said.
The event was attended by CEM BTC Pramod Boro, Vice Chancellor Prof. B.L. Ahuja, faculty members, students, and other dignitaries, marking a momentous occasion for Bodoland University’s continued excellence in higher education.
