Governor Acharya urges Dibrugarh University graduates to lead India’s path to development

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya emphasized the crucial role of students in shaping a developed India by 2047 while addressing the 23rd convocation of Dibrugarh University on Tuesday. He highlighted the importance of knowledge, research, and innovation in propelling the nation towards its goal of becoming a global leader.
Acharya called upon Dibrugarh University, the second-oldest university in the region, to spearhead advanced research and technological innovation, ensuring a smooth transition to a self-reliant and developed India. He urged students to focus on skill-building and emerging technologies to create new opportunities and drive the country’s economic and social growth.
Speaking about India’s rapid transformation, the Governor noted that with advancements in technology, employment opportunities are expanding. He stressed the need for universities to integrate traditional learning with modern technology, ensuring that education remains relevant to the evolving job market. He also lauded the Assam government’s efforts in promoting skill-based education to enhance youth employability.
Acharya outlined key government initiatives aimed at strengthening the education sector, including model schools for tea garden workers’ children, infrastructure revamp in institutions, and the establishment of new medical colleges, polytechnic institutes, and ITI centers. He reiterated that India’s ambition to become the world’s third-largest economy requires visionary leadership combined with strong ethical values.
Encouraging graduates to excel in various fields such as science, technology, and healthcare, the Governor urged them to establish industries and address global challenges like climate change and digital transformation. He praised the increasing participation of women in higher education, stating that their growing contributions reflect India’s evolving vision for inclusive progress.
The convocation ceremony saw 10,648 students receiving their degrees. The Governor also conferred a D. Sc. degree to Dr. Jayanti Chutia and an honorary D. Litt. degree to Nahendra Padun. The event was attended by California Health Agency’s Chief Technology and Innovation Officer Dr. Rupam Sarmah, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jiten Hazarika, academic council members, faculty, students, and their guardians.
