Governor decides to allow ADCs to function autonomously
SHILLONG: Governor Tathagata Roy has maintained that the autonomous district councils (ADCs) should be allowed to function autonomously without any interference from the state government.
“I have decided that the autonomous district councils must function autonomously without any meddling by the government,” Roy told reporters here on Thursday.
On the alleged tussle between the Raj Bhavan and the state government following his recent decision to reject the latter’s recommendation for Administrator’s rule in the KHADC, the governor said, “This is a democratic country and people are entitled to have their own opinions.”
He however said there is no tussle at all and the chief minister Conrad K Sangma had also made it very clear on this. “I appreciate the CM for his statement,” the governor added.
Earlier, Sangma had categorically denied that is any tussle between the office of the Governor and the state government over the issue related to the political development in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
“I don’t think one has to look at it as a tussle as these are procedural matters. We will have to see may be he (governor) had his legal and constitutional points. Once we go through the file we will take a call on how to move forward and see what has to be done,” Sangma had said.
