Govt approves MITP to improve road connectivity, inland waterways
The state Cabinet has approved the proposal to avail loan for the implementation of the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP).
Speaking to reporters after the meeting on Tuesday, minister in-charge power James K Sangma said that the MITP has been formulated with the objective to improve road connectivity, ropeways and inland waterways for transportation while keeping in view the tourism opportunities in the state.
He said this program is also expected to bring about access to market, ease traffic congestion and to promote socio-economic development.

The minister also informed that the department of economics affairs, ministry of finance had approved the project for external assistance of 300 million US dollars to be sought in two phases.
Accordingly, the cabinet has also approved the proposal, he added.
