Govt asks 3 ADCs to submit views on 6th Schedule within 1 week
The state government has asked the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) to submit their views and suggestions on the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India within one week.
This was informed by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma after chairing a meeting with the three chief executive members (CEMs) of the three ADCs – Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
Sangma told reporters that the discussion was on the amendment bill of the Sixth Schedule and the different suggestions that were given by the parliamentary standing committee.
He said based on that the government of India has again asked the state government to give its comments and suggestions on the matter adding in order to give those suggestions and comments, the government had called a meeting with all the three ADCs so that their view point can also be included.
He added meeting also discussed all the details whether it is to do with the issues related to the unrepresented tribes, nominations, number of seats, different elections that will be held at different levels.
“All these factors and issues were discussed in large details and based on that once again all the CEMs have been asked to give in their suggestions and recommendations within the next one week,” Sangma said.
He further informed that a final meeting will be held on August 25, to crystalize on the recommendation from the government side and that will be submitted to the government of India.
