Govt asks commercial vehicles to pay FASTag
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong has asked the commercial vehicles not to complain so much about having to pay for FASTag.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Tynsong said the rate concerning the FASTag has been fixed nationally by the government of India “so that we are able to get good roads”.
“I should request the commercial vehicles and consumers do not complain so much if you pay Rs 160 – Rs 180…Do you know how much the cost for construction of roads (it is) Rs 600 – Rs 700 crores…I am telling you need to understand, commercial vehicles please don’t complain, pay,” he said.
He was reacting to complaints against the toll gate of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in Ri Bhoi for allegedly overcharging for FASTag. Some of the drivers have alleged that the toll gate is charging Rs 320 for travelling to and fro instead of Rs 160.
Tynsong said that the problem may be because the FASTag has just started a few days back.
“We have already instructed the concerned project director of the NHAI to rectify and make sure that you don’t harass people in the toll gate,” he said.
On the other hand, the deputy chief minister however said that the state government has very little say on the matter as the road has been taken over by NHAI.
Asked, Tynsong said, “People should also ask why you don’t issue us a proper receipt especially drivers when they reach back to their destination they have to show whatever they have to spend on the road, so they can do that with the receipt be it from check gate, toll gate or anything.
Right now there are vehicles who are yet to register (for fastag) so in the toll gate you either give fastag or pay cash.”
Asserting the need for all vehicles to register for FASTag, Tynsong said the guidelines from the ministry concerned is very clear that “you have to have a FASTag card and without that you will not be allowed to pass through the toll gate.”
Daniel Raju says
There are so many defects in toll system:
1) scanning machines are not working or software not updated.
2) manual.machines are used but they are also not working sometimes.
3) short guys who try to scan manually can not reach wind screen centre, so only at an angle, there is no sensing.
4) recharge done on fasttag , is not getting updated even after one hour. By this time vehicle is at next toll gate. So need to pay in cash, as balance not showing.
5) some vehicles show defective fast tags , due to unknown reasons. So long line behind this vehicle till matter is resolved.
6) normally, all back vehicles have to move to next lane somehow.
7) double punch of fasttag. Or error occurred which is confirmed later after one day or later with, money withdrawn multiple times or with panelty
8) power cut at toll gates
9) having fast tag, but balance not sufficient, there, opertor demanding double toll tax.
