Govt assures to complete process of teachers appointment
Minister in-charge Education Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday assured to complete the process of recruiting teachers at the earliest possible.
“The recruitment process is on and we hope we will be able to (complete it) in a very short possible time,” Rymbui said while replying during the question hour in the Assembly.
“If there is no issue, we will complete within one month,” he assured.
The Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has expressed concern that there are many schools which are without teachers pending the appointment to the vacant posts.
Stating that the regular appointment will take time, Sangma enquired if there are interim measures being taken by the government to ensure there are teachers in such schools.
He also asked the government to understand the gravity of the situation and ensure children are not deprived of education. He cited that there is one school in East Garo Hills where teachers appointment was not there for more than one year.
Expressing similar concerns, NPP legislator from Selsella Ferlin A Sangma said while the government are asking to start the schools, 23 schools under Dadenggre are having less teachers since appointment of over 184 teachers are pending.
To this, Rymbui said that temporary measres will be put in place while process to appoint the teachers is on.
“Last year, we have appointed teachers but there are districts which have shortage of qualified teachers. We have already conducted MTET exams and process of appointment to these vacant posts is on. Anything we do it will be a permanent solution,” he said.
When Ferlin raised concern over the dilapidated conditions of most of the government lower primary and upper primary schools saying that they are no better than cowsheds, the minister assured that the department is addressing the issue.
