Govt doing it’s best to fight drugs
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh took a swipe at the organization criticising the government’s flagship DREAM programme meant towards tackling rising substance abuse in the state stating that they will cease to exist if they do not criticise.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “They are free to criticise. We are doing whatever is best for us to do. If they do not criticize, they will cease to exist. They criticize in order to be seen and to be heard.”
With drugs being seize on a regular basis, the Minister said that the government has been able to invoke provisions of preventive detention for drug traffickers for the first time this year.
He said, “This has never happened in the past. Let them keep criticising, we will do our work.”
It may be mentioned that the government initiated the Drug Reduction, Elimination and Action Mission (DREAM) to handle substance abuse in the state, however it has been criticised by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) asserting that the project is good in paper but lacks proper implementation.
