Govt earmarked Rs 1,770 crore for construction of new roads
To take up construction of new roads and to complete the ongoing roads projects in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday informed amount of Rs 1,770 crore is allocated for the year 2022-23 for the roads sector, out of which Rs 519 crore is for PMGSY, Rs 220 crore specifically for the rural roads and the remaining will be for the various State road projects.
Construction and expansion of additional critical roads with an investment of Rs 800 crore will be initiated in 2022-23, Sangma said that these roads included Jowai-Nartiang-Kdiap-Khanduli road and the Ummulong-Tyrshang-Bamkamar Road ironically both roads under 1-Nartiang Assembly Constituency in Jaintia Hills Region, Mawphlang-Mawsynram road and Umlyngka-Lawmei road in Khasi Hills region and Chokpot-Sibbari road, the Anogre-Raksamgre road and the Rongrenggre-Simsanggre-Nengkra road in Garo Hills region.

The MDA government has spent almost Rs 1,300 crore over the last four years for building rural roads, Sangma said that they are spending about Rs 2,500 crore for building 26 major roads all over the State. These include the MairangRani Godown-Azra road, the Rongram-Phulbari hill road, the DawkiBholaganj road and the Pasyih-Garampani road. Most of these roads will be completed and dedicated to the people of the State by December 2022.
