Govt imposes salary deferment not pay cut: MSGEF
The Meghalaya State Government Employees Federation (MSGEF) has unanimously decided to extend full support to the state government in its effort to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The decision was taken at the federation’s emergent meeting held at the Yojana Bhavan, Main Secretariat here on Tuesday.
A statement issued after the meeting said that the Federation has also clarified to the members of the affiliated Associations that the state government is not imposing any pay cut but just a deferment in the pay-percentage-wise and proportionately according to the pay scale category of the employees.
“This amount will be kept for exigencies that may arise due to COVID-19 and will be credited back into the account of the employees once the situation improves,” it said.
The Federation said that the pay deferment will be for the month of April to be paid in May and for the month of May to be paid in June.
“Those employees with bank loan can write a simple application to the branch managers of their respective bank not to deduct their EMI for the month of March, April and May as per instruction of Government of India, if they wish to,” it added.
Earlier during the meeting, the Federation has also welcomed the suggestion made by one of the members of the affiliated association regarding contribution of one day’s salary towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to overcome this COVID-19 challenge. The Federation also requested the affiliated associations, barring those involved in the frontline like the Meghalaya Nurses Association, to initially discuss the matter with their respective members and submit a resolution accordingly in the next Federal Council Meeting to be held on May 15.
