Govt launches 2 wildlife conservation projects worth over Rs 39 Cr
Forest and Environment Minister James K Sangma on Thursday announced the launching of two wildlife conservation projects including the recovery of the clouded leopard in Meghalaya.
Speaking on the occasion of 49th anniversary of Meghalaya’s statehood, Sangma said the first project is related to the recovery of the Clouded leopard in Meghalaya.
“The government has earmarked an outlay of Rs 36 crore for this project which will be for a period of six years,” he said.
The minister also called upon each and every citizen to protect the state animal, which is under the vulnerable category
He said that the second project is on the conservation of small cats and other elusive mammals adding that Rs 3.84 crore has been earmarked for a period of 4 years.
