Govt on the job to implement parking policy to ease traffic congestion in Shillong: Dhar

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday said the Meghalaya Urban Parking Policy 2025 will be implemented shortly to regulate parking of vehicles on the strees and on the roads in all urban areas of the state, which according to him will address the traffic congestion in Shillong city.
Speaking to media persons, Dhar said, “Implementatin of the parking policy will help to reduce street parkings as no one can simply park their vehicles on the road.”
According to him, random parking of vehicles on the streets have been one of the main caused of traffic congestion.
“Therefore, we will identify roads, where street parking will be allowed,” he added.
The parking policy seeks to create a system where certain fees is charged and at the same time, people don’t just park randomly as specific zones will be given in the streets where you can park and where you cannot park, he explained.
Further, the minister informed that the government has decided to shift the secretariat to the new Shillong as part of its endeavour to decongest the state capital.
“This will really improve and we as a government are discussing an doing things to try to come up with many ways to ease the traffic jams in the city,” he added.
