Govt orders 10 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines
The state government has ordered 10 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine to meet the requirement for the targeted population in the state.
“We have already sent an official request for both 45 years and above as well as for the age group of 18-44. We have asked for 5-10 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Saturday.
Tynsong also admitted that it is a fact that there is a shortage of vaccines.
“The shortage is not only in Meghalaya as it is happening throughout the nation…this is beyond our control and we can’t help it. (However), the Government of India is still working out and is still having a discussion with the manufacturing companies,” he added.
When asked about the fate of those waiting to get their second dose of the vaccine, the deputy chief minister however said that vaccines for 45 years and above are available and they will be able to complete their second doses.
He said that the vaccination drive for citizens who are 18 years and above have got positive response.
The deputy chief minister further informed that the bed capacity throughout the state is about 800 plus and 460 is being occupied right now.
“Citizens need not worry as far as the oxygen is concerned since there is no shortage in the state,” he added.
