Govt orders inquiry into alleged corruption in ADCs
The state government on Wednesday ordered a probe into the alleged corruption in the implementation of the central special assistance grant (SAG) by the two autonomous district councils (ADCs).
Informing this, District Council Affairs (DCA) Minister, Hamletson Dohling told reporters that the government has written to the Director of the Local Fund Audit (DLFA) to conduct an inquiry into the alleged misuse of the central funds.
“We have requested the DLFA to submit its report on the matter at the earliest,” Dohling said.
The decision came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded for a CBI inquiry into alleged scam in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
According to the state BJP chief Ernest Mawrie, over Rs 20 crore of SAG development funds have been diverted for payment of salaries of employees in JHADC violating the guidelines.
In GHADC a documentary project costing Rs 5.82 crore was allotted without any tender or bidding for supplying information, education and communication (IEC) materials to the Council, he said.
