Govt postpones GHADC elections, AR imposed: CM
The state government has decided to postpone the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
After chairing a cabinet meeting on Monday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “After taking the advice of the health department, we felt holding the elections during these COVID times may pose risk to the public in general.”
He said that the date for holding the elections will be decided later depending on the COVID-19 situation.
Sangma also announced taking over the administration of the GHADC by the Governor.
He said imposition of the administrator’s rule will be for a period of six months.
