Govt releases Rs 45 crore to JHADC
JOWAI: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday informed that the state government has released over Rs 45 crore to the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) during the current financial year.
“We have released almost Rs 45 crore to the JHADC in 2019-2020,” Sangma told reporters after a meeting held with the representatives of the JHADC and government officials here in Jowai.
He however said that the Council has informed there are still pending dues from 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016 and 2016-2017, which needs to be verified.
“They have shown us the backlogs that an amount of Rs 93 crore and Rs 45 crore is pending in 2016-2017 and 2014-2015 respectively. These things are much before we took over (the government) but I will ask the finance department to have meeting and discuss it,” Sangma said.
According to him, the fact that Rs 45 crore was released in 2019-2020 shows the kind of support and sincerity of the government despite the challenges being faced by the state.
On the request made for interim arrangement, the chief minister said he will examine the matter. “We will see what can be done as I said we have given more in this financial year but we will try to give more but I cannot give assurance immediately,” he stated.
