‘Govt servants are liable for punishment on failure to deliver services to public’
Now, government servants will be liable for punishment if they fail to deliver services to the public within a specific period of time.
This came after the Meghalaya Rights to Public Services Bill, 2020 was approved by the state cabinet on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the Bill will be placed before the upcoming autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, which will commence from November 5, for its consideration.
He said the objective of coming up with the Bill is to ensure that a specific timeline is given for any kind of services that the government is providing to the people like caste certificate, driving license and others.
“With this Act in place, officials who are in the position to give these services, they will be liable for punishment if the particular service is not given in a specific period of time,” Sangma said.
According to the chief minister, this will ensure that the overall delivery of service improves at the grassroot level.
