Govt sets 45-day deadline for Meghalaya Lokayukta panel: CM

The state government has asked the search committee constituted for selection of new chairperson and members of the Meghalaya Lokayukta to submit the panel names for appointment within 30 – 45 days.
“We have requested the search committee headed by former IAS officer Peter Dkhar to complete the process at the earliest. We expect names to be submitted within 30-45 days. Once that happens, we will be again sitting in the main committee chaired by the chief minister and members are speaker, deputy chief minister, leader of opposition and chief justice of Meghalaya,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
He informed that the cabinet has approved the amendment of the rules for the search committee by increasing the sitting allowances of its chairman and the members.
“Earlier the committee members used to get Rs 2500 per sitting and it was felt that it should be increased as it is only one or two meetings that took place. The amount has been increased to Rs 5000 for the members and for the chairman from Rs 3000 to Rs 6000,” he added.
