Govt sets target of providing potable drinking: CM
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the process has started through the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission for providing potable drinking water to the citizens of the state.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma recalled that the state started with only one percent of the households that were connected with potable drinking water.
“It is a massive task but the state government and the department has moved very aggressively on this and now within a matter of months, we have crossed almost 14 percent,” he said.
“We are hopeful that in the coming years we will be able to meet our target and ensure we are able to achieve 100 percent. So we are in the process and it will happen,” the chief minister asserted.
Earlier this week, the division bench of the Meghalaya High Court had directed the state government to formulate a policy and roadmap for providing potable and arsenic free water to citizens. The next hearing has been fixed on March 2.
