Govt to appeal for calling off rescue ops in Ksan
SHILLONG: After more than four months of rescue operation for ill fated 16 miners in Ksan, East Jaintia Hills District, the State Government today decided to appeal to the Supreme Court to call off the operation.
Informing this to media persons, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “We will appeal to the Supreme Court soon to allow us to discontinue the ongoing rescue operations.” He also said the operations are still going as per the Apex court’s order but they were not yielding any positive results.
“We have been maintaining from day one that it is very difficult operation. Nonetheless the government continued to work and agencies from throughout the country came in and help but we did not get the desired results,” Sangma said.
“However we still hope we can retrieve the bodies so that the family members can at least perform the last rites,” he added.
