Govt to appoint the best as new Meghalaya DGP: Rymbui
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said the state government will soon take a call on the appointment of the new Director General of Police (DGP).
Rymbui told reporters that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had recommended three names for the appointment of the new DGP and the process is on for taking a final decision on the matter.
“We will choose the best from among the three names,” he said when asked who will be the new DGP of the state.
The names shortlisted by the UPSC are Mukesh Agrawal, KV Singh Deo (both 1989 batch) and L Ram Bishnoi (1991 batch).
Rymbui further stated that the state government will take into consideration the prevailing situation and the unique nature of the state of Meghalaya while deciding on the appointment of the new police chief.
He assured that the decision of the government will be made known at an appropriate time.
Rymbui also rubbished reports alleging that there is a strong lobby for appointment of Assam’s Special Director General of Police, Lajja Ram Bishnoi as the new Meghalaya DGP.
“That (allegation) is a mere speculation because we from the state government have not taken any decision yet. The appointment of the new DGP will take some time,” the home minister said.
