Govt to bring one lakh hectares of land under organic cultivation: Commissioner and Secretary Dr. Vijay Kumar D
The state government intends to bring one lakh hectares under organic cultivation and make Meghalaya a national leader in organic.
Speaking at the Meghalaya Next Event held at Convocation hall, NEHU, Commissioner & Secretary Dr Vijay Kumar D. said, “We are also launching today the state organic mission. Meghalaya has three lakh hectares of land under cultivation out of that we want to bring one lakh hectares under organic cultivation. The organic mission has also been supported by another KFW project, which is for the farmers mobilization project.”
He added that state government wants to bring one lakh hectares under certified organic cultivation and make Meghalaya a national leader in organic cultivation within three years.
Kumar said, “So with today’s launch of our state mission organic Meghalaya state organic mission, a lot of support will be provided to the farmers, to farmers groups, to cooperatives to all the collectives to take up organic cultivation. And the mission document will be launched, and we are going to spend a lot of money on the mission organic.”

He added that the programs such as FOCUS, PES, Mission Organic, protection of catchment fall under the umbrella of Meghalaya Next.
