Govt to close all entry points to Meghalaya: Tynsong
The state government has announced closure of all entry points to the state from July 23 to July 31.
“The government has decided to close all the entry points of the state. The closure will start from midnight of July 23 or morning of July 24 till midnight of July 31,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after a daily review meeting on Wednesday.
The entry points includes at Byrnihat, Ratacherra, Bajengdoba, Tikrikilla, Mirjunga and Halidikand.
He said these six check points will stand close except emergency cases like essential commodities and transit vehicles will be allowed.
“This decision is essential to unburden the health and other frontline workers as well as district administration who have been engaged in this extensive surveillance work,” Tynsong said.
During this closure period, he said the health department and covid committees shall also engage in giving awareness to people on behaviour change.
This time shall also be used to shift the entry point of Byrnihat to a new location identified by the government, he said.
Asked, Tynsong said people who intended to return to the state are requested to stay back wherever they are during this period.
Wolfk says
Enough is enough. Entry point should be closed permanently. Genuine citizens who wants to return to the state have already returned a long time ago e.g. when the government arranged return of the students community . The people who are coming now are only the families of defence personnel, some transferred central government officials and habitual travellers who cannot stay in one place. The state government should stop once entry of defence personnel as they are the ones who spread this infection in the first placeand the central government should understand the situation.
