Govt to constitute committees headed by MLAs for effective tackling of COVID-19: CM
The state government has decided to constitute committees at the constituency level headed by the MLAs for effective management of the COVID-19 situation in the state.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma with legislators from 17 constituencies in East Khasi Hills district at the Yojana Bhavan auditorium on Friday.
“We have decided that we will be putting up committees at the constituency level. These committees will be headed by the MLAs for better coordination between the different covid management committees, the district administration, the different blocks and the various departments,” Sangma told reporters after the meeting.
Stating that this was a major decision by the government, the Chief Minister said similar exercises will again be conducted in other districts of the state.
“We will be sending our cabinet ministers to visit the other districts and taking up the matter and sharing the same concern,” he said.
The Chief Minister further informed that the state government has also asked the different MLAs and committees to look at the entire aspect and the kind of impact the COVID-19 could have in the state.
“We have to look at the option on how we could sensitize people to look at home quarantine wherever is possible for positive cases and also have community corona care centres wherever is possible in line with the community and local leaders,” he said.
“We are also looking into the aspect of enhancing the corona care centre and beds in different districts of the state…,” he added.
The Chief Minister also thanked the MLAs for giving a lot of positive suggestions and assured that the government has taken note and would be acting on the various issues raised by them during the meeting.
Earlier while chairing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the Covid situation is becoming complicated and urgent collective action was needed in the seemingly long battle ahead against the virus.
‘When it comes to Covid-19 we all need to work as a team. The public representatives, officials, local leaders, Rangbah Shnong, Nokmas and citizens all have to come together to ensure that we minimise the growth and spread of Covid-19’, he said while stating that lockdown is nothing but a temporary solution against something that the country and the state have to face against in the long run.
The meeting discussed and deliberated at length the different strategies and approaches that the Government could adopt to reduce the impact of Covid-19 and better tackle the rising Covid positive case, by exploring different options such as increasing the number of beds in corona care centres, designating community corona care centres in consultation with community and local leaders and also home quarantine strategies wherever feasible.
