Govt to construct new Meghalaya House at Guwahati, guest house in Khanapara
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed the Assembly on Thursday that he has requested the government of Assam for providing land for construction of a new Meghalaya House in Guwahati.
He also announced the government’s decision to set up a guest house at Khanapara, Ri Bhoi district.
In his supplementary reply, the Chief Minister said, “In my recent meeting with the Assam CM, I had brought up this issue (on) Assam giving better land and plot. I got a positive response. We are pursuing and we hope to get (the land) since discussion has been initiated from our side.”
He also informed that the tourism department has procured some land in Khanapara and a proposal is on to set up a guest house, which will be used as a multipurpose facility.

“The Tourism department will start the process of setting up a guest house at Khanapara,” Conrad added.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh urged the State government to consider increasing the rooms of the two Meghalaya Houses at Guwahati and Vellore to address the problems faced by students and people from the state. He said the rent charged is very high and if the government comes with additional rooms, it will not cause a huge financial burden on the people from the state.
Opposition VPP legislator from Mawlai Brightstarwell Marbaniang wanted to know if the government has any plan to come up with better infrastructure in Guwahati and Vellore in view of the conditions to two Meghalaya Houses since many people from the state are frequenting the two states for medical treatment
On this, GAD Minister Rakkam A Sangma said that the matter is under examination for both Guwahati and Vellore
“Due to limited rooms we could not accommodate all,” he said while informing that the matter is being pursued with the government of Assam.
