Govt to deploy border wing of Home Guard in Indo-Bangla border
Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday said the government has decided to deploy the border wing of the home guard for safety and security of the people residing along the unfenced areas of the Indo-Bangla border.
“Govt of Megh, Home(Police)& Home Guard for safety & security of the people in the unfenced areas of Indo-Bangla border ofJaintia&Khasi Hills decided to post some Border Wing H.Guard to Police Station/Outpost in the area to supplement the Police & VDP due to shortage of Police Force,” Rymbui said on his twitter handle.
Meghalaya has 444.857 kms international boundary with Bangladesh.
Earlier during the just concluded Assembly’s budget session, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had informed that the actual length to be fenced is 448.981 kms, out of which 329.160 kms has been completed while 46.970 kms is under progress and 12.318 kms is non-feasible gaps.
“Fencing work is yet to start for 60.533 kms,” he had said adding that this was due to protest by some NGOs.
