Govt to examine 19 proposals for new C&RD blocks
Minister in-charge Community Rural & Development (C&RD) Hamletson Dohling on Friday said the government is examining as many as 19 proposals for creation of new blocks across the state.
“We have received lots of proposals, 19 of them and the matter is being examined by the government,” Dohling told the Assembly.
These include Mawsaw (West Khasi Hills), Nartiang, Namdong (West Jaintia Hills), Lumshnong, Wapung (East Jaintia Hills) and others.
He also assured to examine the request of Salmanpara legislator Winnerson D Sangma for creation of a new block in Purakhasia, which is presently covered under Dalu block. Dohling however said he is yet to receive any application from the legislator on the matter.
Nongkrem legislator Lambor Malngiang and Nongpoh legislator Mayralborn Syiem also requested the government to consider creation of Nongkrem block and Umden block respectively to which the minister assured that the department will look into the proposals.
According to Dohling, Rs 12 crore is required for setting up a new C&RD block.
