Govt to inaugurate newly created Eastern West Khasi Hills district on Nov 10

The state Cabinet on Friday approved the upgradation of the Mairang Civil Sub-division to a full-fledged district.

Announcing this after the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the inauguration of the newly created district will be on November 10.

“The name of the new district is Eastern West Khasi Hills,” he said.

Regarding the expenditure for the new district, Tynsong said that the government has asked the department concerned to work out all details and this will be reflected in the state budget next year.

When asked, the deputy chief minister however said leaving aside political issues, the creation of a new district will ensure administration is closer to the people besides implementation of different schemes in different districts will also be more effective.
