Govt to increase pensions for senior citizens, PwDs, single mothers to Rs 9,000 per year
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday announced the government’s decision to increase the pensions for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PwDs) and single mothers to Rs 9,000 per year.
“From October this year, the pensions for senior citizens, PwDs and single mothers will be increased from Rs 6000 per year to Rs 9000 per year,” Sangma said in his reply to a short duration discussion in the Assembly.
He said this has been a long demand of these people who have been suffering and not getting sufficient amounts. “I understand this may not be completely sufficient for them to take care of all their needs but wherever possible, we are trying to intervene and help the different sections of the society in whatever way possible,” Sangma added.
