Govt to make validity of MTET certificate lifetime
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday informed that the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET) certificate is valid for lifetime.
Speaking to reporters, Rymbui said that a notification in this regard will be issued within this week.
“This means that they (candidates) will not have to appear again because the MTET certificate which they already got is valid for lifetime,” he added.
He informed that the maximum validity of those who already passed the MTET is from 3 to 7 years but the recent notification from NCTE has stated that MTET qualification will be valid for lifetime.
Rymbui also informed that the department had postponed the MTET examination due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
“However with the opening of offices, a new notification to fix the date for the MTET examination will come out maybe next week or after 10 days,” he said.
Asked on the reinstatement of teachers, who were terminated due to the education scam, the minister said the state government had already passed an order relating to 187 candidates who have appealed to the committee.
“The committee has found that they could be appointed again. So the order from the government had already been passed,” he said.
On the fate of other candidates, Rymbui said, “…they have to appeal to the committee and we from the education department, we cannot say anything right now until and unless there is an order passed by that committee. As of now there is no order passed by that committee for us to do anything.”
