Govt to provide ventilators for two districts in Jaintia Hills: Rymbui
The state government has decided to provide ventilators for the two districts of Jaintia Hills region as part of preparation to tackle situation that may arise due to spread of COVID-19.
This was informed by the home minister Lahkmen Rymbui after chairing a separate meeting with the district administrations of East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
According to him, one ventilator each will be provided to Civil Hospital, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills and Community Health Centre, Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills.
The home minister, who is also holding charge of education department, was accompanied by transport minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, fisheries minister Comingone Ymbon, revenue & disaster management minister Kyrmen Shylla, Jowai MLA W Shylla and Sutnga-Saipung MLA Shitlang Pale.
Rymbui said that the government delegation has visited the two districts to take stock of the situation and address the problems faced by the people of the region in view of the 21-day lockdown to prevent spread of the coronavirus disease.
On the supply of essential commodities, Rymbui informed distribution of ration is going on in the two districts.
“The allotment of 5,000 quintal of rice for East Jaintia Hills and 8,097 quintal for West Jaintia Hills for the month of April will also be distributed very soon,” he said.
According to him, the government is also in the process of releasing the allotment for the month of May and June as well to ensure there is no shortage of food supply.
He further informed that the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police have also been directed to hold meetings with retailers and wholesalers to ensure smooth transportation of essential commodities to the two districts.
On the other hand, the home minister informed that screening centres have also been set up at Saphai and Khanduli along the inter-state border in West Jaintia Hills.
He said that there is shortage of personal protective equipments (PPEs) in East Jaintia Hills adding the government will soon provide adequate of them.
In West Jaintia Hills, he said the PPEs are sufficient as of now.
Rymbui said the district also has isolation wards at Jowai civil hospital and at Dr Norman Tunnel KJP Assembly hospital, Jowai besides one bed at CHC and PHC level.
The education minister further informed that the Kiang Nangbah Govt College, Jowai has been converted into a corona isolation centre for treating over 70 patients (35 females & 35 males).
The MCH hospital at Panaliar, Jowai has also been identified as one of the quarantine facility if the need arise, he added.
Stating that there are 6 PHCs which are functioning without any ambulance service, the minister said that the government will soon provide ambulances to these PHCs at Khliehtyrhci, Ummulong, Jarain, Nangbah, Padu and Mynso.
The minister also directed the deputy commissioners to coordinate with the agriculture and horticulture department and come up with a helpline number for facilitating between farmers and vegetable vendors to ensure supply is made available to the citizens.
Asked, Rymbui said over 608 students who have returned back from outside the state have registered with the government through 108 helpline number.
According to him, health department is keeping in touch with all of them on a daily basis.
