Govt to release more funds for completion of GSWSS-III: CM
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the state government is keen to complete the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) phase-III.
Supplementing the reply given by the minister concerned on the issue in the Assembly, Sangma said the government is also looking at all sources of funding and is exploring AMRUT.
He however said at the same time, the state has received a special package from the Government of India along with other states for capital expenditure which is meant for projects which were 50-60% completed and just needed a bit of funding to finish them.
“We have received the first installment of Rs 100 crore and we have released Rs 12.5 crore (for the GSWSS-III) and we will be releasing some more,” the chief minister said.
Earlier while replying to a query raised by Mawlai legislator Process T Sawkmie, Minister in-charge Public Health Engineering (PHE) Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said the GSWSS-III is expected to be completed by the next financial year.
“The additional fund required is Rs 65.57 crore for completion of the project of which we have got Rs 12.5 crore and we are still waiting for the remaining amount,” he said while informing that 72 per cent of the work has been completed.
“The department is intending to celebrate the achievement of completion of this project along with the 50th anniversary of statehood. With the support of CM, I really hope will be able to complete the scheme,” the minister added.
According to him, Rs 17,414.75 lakh was received as central share and Rs 1,934.97 lakh (or 10%) state share.
